Basic character information
Full character name: Takumi Maruyama
Nicknames:Besides varying references to the spikyness of his hair, not really.
Gender:Male
Race(Demon, Human, etc.): Human
Age:19
Apparent age: Late teens
Appearance
Hair:Blond and spiky
Eyes:Glowing blue
Build:Tall, slim and muscular.
Markings or tattoos:A large branded outline of a snake on his back, as a mark of shame
Clothing: CLICKY Baggy, dark navy pants cuffed at the bottom, and a sleeveless, vest-type shirt. There are various changes in his attire than shown in the picture: His boots are changed to leather, slip-on ankle boots, the pauldron on his shoulder is smaller, colored black, and doesn't have those weird cylinders poking out. Instead of a girdle-like belt, he wears an obi with another sword in it, and those suspender-things holding his belt/pants up aren't there, instead, his shirt is tucked into his pants. Those bangles on his left arm are gone, he wears no accessories there. His gloves are simpler, brighter, leather gloves, and aren't worn most of the time.
Other: A dark scar on his abdomen.
Personality:
Good traits (five or more):
- Honest...usually.
- Physically strong and agile due to the demonic energy imbued into his body/spirit.
- He's highly intelligent, regardless of whether he puts it to use or not. Even if he finds a more elegant, indirect way of doing something, he'll still probably go for the more direct, simpler, hack n' slash method. But he doesn't have to.
- Highly skilled in combat, due to his brother teaching him how to fight, and taking him on missions with him, and from fighting strong demons by himself.
- Skilled worker. Hunting, carpentry, demon-slaying, human-slaying, anything in between-slaying, bodyguard, etc. If you pay him, he'll probably do it.
- Still has a good remainder of a conscience left, believe it or not. He's been hired to kill children, elderly, or other weak defenseless people before, and has failed to be able to do so.
- Still wants to have relationships with people. He fights this urge very much.
Bad traits (five or more):
- Bitter...against everything, and everyone pretty much...
- Pessimistic; extremely. Even if a certain situation has a good outlook, he expects it to go wrong, and will refuse to believe that the situation may turn out okay, until it does.
- Quiet...too quiet. If he's upset or anything at you, he probably won't say anything. He'll just stare at you with disgust.
- Misanthrope. He doesn't like people at all, even himself. As a matter of fact...
-...self-respect. Not much, if any left. He feels as if he is among the worst of the worst of almost all of the lifeforms.
- He's really greedy. He'll do almost anything for money, besides stealing money itself...unless it was from a dead guy. He'd totally steal from a dead guy.
Likes (three or more):
- Money. Lots of money. He doesn't spend much of it at all. He basically had nothing to really care about, so he chose to care about money.
- Certain kinds of people...sometimes. He won't admit to it, though.
- Enough sake to make him forget how crappy he causes his own life to be.
- Springtime
- Chicken
Dislikes (three or more):
- Losing money
- Greedy, rude, negative people like himself
- People always commenting about his hair, and asking him how it's so spiky. He really doesn't know, he just wakes up and it's like that...
- Milk. He's not lactose intolerant, but he hates the taste and smooth texture of milk.
- Being alone...but once again, he won't admit to it, and chooses to spend most of his time alone...seems like I'm forgetting something...
Abilities
Strengths: (at least 5)
- Stronger than most humans, and some demons because of the demonic energy he possesses
- Strong sense of determination, especially when money is involved.
- Doesn't allow emotions to take control in a fight
- Knows when to fight, and when to not fight, and can detect and avoid unwinnable fights
- Good at both projectile and melee combat
Weaknesses:(at least 5)
- Too attached/focused on money. He'd risk taking many terrible injuries to save his money from harm's way
- He drinks a lot, and sometimes loses his ability to keep his mouth shut and stay out of unnecessary battles over petty reasons
- He doubts his abilities very much, and doesn't really believe in himself at all, but he'd like you to think he was arrogant
- Like many other members of his clan, the demonic spirit energy infused within him causes occasional depression, confusion, sicknesses, joint aches, and even loss of consciousness, sometimes. This is caused by the demon spirit's unrest. Nothing too serious or life-threatening, though.
- His glowing blue eyes are easily spotted in the dark, making it nearly impossible for him to keep a low profile at night.
Powers:
Concentrated Wind Strike - The Meiyomotsu's wind attributes allow him the ability to concentrate wind as he moves the blade in a slashing motion in mid-air, and manifests as an arc-shaped, transparent, white "wave" of condensed air that is capable of cutting through flesh and bone. Used primarily as an extension of his sword.
Lightning Strike - Able to summon bright, yellow, hot, demonic lightning energy around the Meiyomotsu as he strikes. Can easily cut and burn through some of the toughest of demon hides, but takes a considerable amount of energy to use, and requires a two hour cooldown period in between usage.
Whirlwind Creation - He may use the Meiyomotsu to create a spinning whirlwind of air, used to to either flee from battle, fling an enemy away from him, or to stop projectiles such as arrows from hitting him.
Weapons:
Meiyomotsu - A large, long, wide broadsword with demonic wind and lightning energy inside.
Tsuyotsuke - A sturdy katana that used to contain strong fire and earth energy, but he broke it, and it lost it's special abilities. He had it reforged, and now, it's just a sturdy katana.
History and writing
History (2 or more paragraphs):
He was born into the Maruyama clan, a former demon-slayer clan. A few decades before he was born, the leaders of the clan decided to stray away from slaying demons to protect people, and started to rent their slayers out as mercenaries.
Soon after that, the money being earned from their warrior's hard work wasn't enough. The former demon-slaying mercenaries were then rented out to do just about anything. Building houses, escorting people, fishing, and other various tasks.
The once proud clan of slayers didn't even seem to question, or care that they were essentially trading their heritage and honor for money. They enjoyed getting paid just as much as the leaders.
They weren't your average demon-slayers, either. The elders had mastered a technique that augmented their warriors' strength far beyond what a normal human's strength should be. They somehow extracted the souls from slain demons, and "refined" the demonic energy from them, in the process, destroying the soul of the demon.
The elders then imbued the demonic energy on the newborn children of the clan, so that they would "grow into" their demonic power. There was a "special" elder, who supposedly could tell which newborn males were "unfit" to become warriors. It was said that these children, for some unknown reason, wouldn't be able to use their demonic power, because they were "incompatible" with the energy, because their were "weak spirited." Half the time, that very elder didn't even try to sense the children's compatibility. For absolutely no reason, he damned the children to live with their female family members and tend to the "womanly" tasks of village.
Takumi was one of those males. The elder judged him as weak spirited without even examining him, just because he was the product of his mother's extramarital affair with a man from outside of the village. For this affair, his mother was killed in the middle of the village, for everyone to see. Everyone, except Takumi's older brother, cheered for her death. They laughed, danced, and sang as if they were watching some kind of sporting event.
Unlike the other males forced to do household chores, such as cooking, cleaning, tending to wounds, etc., the village women weren't kind to Takumi. Even they, who were viewed as second class citizens to the males, avoided Takumi as if he had some kind of plague.
He spent as much time with his older brother as he could. Usually the elders would've never allowed a male clan member to associate with one who had been deemed unfit, but his brother was an exception, because of his superior fighting skill at a young age. He was a child prodigy, so they always did their best to please him.
His brother was eight years older than him, and was very kind to almost anyone. At times, he could be completely selfless. He often angered the elders when he came back without any money. He simply couldn't charge a dirt poor village for something they absolutely needed to survive, due to his nature.
When Takumi turned ten, his brother began to take him on missions, and teach him little-by-little how to fight. By the time he was twelve, Takumi was stronger than most other twelve-year-olds in the village, despite them having trained most of their whole lives.
On his thirteenth birthday, his brother let him keep one of his swords, the Tsuyotsuke, which he had been training with. It was a katana, imbued with fire and earth powers. When Takumi was fourteen, he and his brother were attacked by a group of demons. These demons were different than the others they fought, these demons, for some reason, wanted his brother alive. Takumi tried to help him, but the group of demons easily overpowered and severely injured him. His brother gave him a shard of the Shikon Jewel, and told him to insert it in his wound. The demons then made off with his brother, and he shoved the jewel shard in his bleeding torso.
He took his brother's sword, Meiyomotsu, which he had left behind, laying on the ground, assumably for Takumi to keep, and learn to master. He returned to the village to inform the leaders of what had happened, but instead of looking for his brother, they accused him of murder. They quickly ambushed Takumi, and since he was wounded, and only managed to make it back due to the jewel shard in his abdomen, he couldn't have defeated them at the time, so he left.
Three years had passed, and Takumi most certainly mastered the Meiyomotsu. In battle, he accidently broke the Tsuyotsuke, causing the fire and earth energy to leave the blade. The sword has been repaired, but no longer holds any special power, although he keeps the sword to remind him of his brother. The jewel shard remained in his abdomen for a while, until he was attacked by a group of demons who greatly outnumbered him, and ripped it out of him. He's been wandering from village to village doing random jobs for money, while hoping that he might run into his brother again, someday.
Roleplaying sample (2 or more paragraphs)OPTIONAL:
Takumi's shirt was stained with recently dried blood as he entered the village. He didn't know what to expect his clan would say, or what they would do when he told them what happened. The only thing that kept him on his feet was the jewel shard given to him by his brother, stuffed in his torn abdomen. His mind was completely blank, and he felt nothing at all, anymore. Meiyomotsu, the large, wide broadsword that had been his brother's, was being dragged on the grass by his left hand, while he used his other sheathed sword, Tsuyotsuke, as a walking stick in his right hand.
After being ambushed and overpowered by a group of strong demons, he suffered a great injury to his abdomen, due to a large, bony, sharp, and very long claw that had punctured him, and ripped a hole in his torso. He had been walking overnight, and was approaching his village. He had always been an outcast, and never had a real relationship with anyone there, except his brother.
He was nervous, and downright afraid of what the elders' response would be to the news that his brother had been kidnapped by demons. They never believed anything he said before, unless he had someone else to vouch for him. He felt that he just had to tell the villagers about what happened, maybe they could find a way to find his brother, wherever he might've been. He could see the village in the near distance with his glowing eyes. He continued walking toward his destination, with the same blank stare on his tired face.
