Basic character information
Full character name: Gavron Alexander
Faction: Roman Inquisition
Title: Inquisitor-Captain
Nicknames: none (he hates nicknames)
Gender: male
Race: Human
Real age: 32
Apparent age: late 30's (or early 40's)
Theme songs:
Because noteworthy characters always have theme songs. At least that's a general rule in anime.
1.: Hammerfall - Last Man Standing
Lyrics included in attached video
This discovers Gavron in his darkest aspect: ruthless and fanatical, but also tormented by the knowledge he hurt those he didn't want in the process.
2.: Kamelot - The Inquisitor
Lyrics: www.lyricstime.com/kamelot-the-inquisitor-lyrics.html
This song fits Gavron's personal views on his job. As an Inquisitor, he holds his duties in high esteem and what satisfies him most is a successful mission. Lives saved, demons killed, onwards to next job.
3.: Disney Studios - Make a Man Out of You
Lyrics included in attached video.
While it may be an odd selection at first, I thought this Disney song was all too perfect to depict a different side of Gavron: he has a tendency to act bossy and rude, but in fact he does so to educate others and improve their survival chances. He doesn't like losing good people. Not even demons, controverisally it may be...
Recurring NPC companions:
Below are a couple of characters I don't plan on using as Player Characters but may be recurring figures in adventures in which I star Gavron:
Tila
(A little monkey demon from North Africa; dark brown fur, blue eyes; can take up a human form, in which case she appears as a dark brown skinned 16-year-old girl with curly black hair; accompanies Gavron as a "pet"; she can talk and read several languages, and has control over water, but only a pailful amount at a time. Hates to fight, very kind and friendly, often tries to keep Gavron on the good path - with changing results - and generally make up for his antisocial habits.)
Sir Janos Vas
(A Hungarian knight of the chivalrious Order of Saint George, an European society of demon-hunters. Very powerful warrior in close combat, clad in enchanted full plate mail armor and wielding a magic sword and shield, and also skilled in mounted fighting; has shoulderlength brown hair, fair skin and blue eyes; dislikes demons in general, but is very honorable, good-hearted, loyal and has a soft spot for the ladies... he possesses the ability to speak any language in the world if he's drunk enough. I plan on using this guy only in adventures where big battles are involved.)
Inquisitor Daniel Weiss
(A German inquisitor of Jewish ancestry, trained together with Gavron during his study years. Fair-skinned, has short dark brown hair, green eyes and a beak-like nose; fights on a similar level as Gavron but uses more traditional weapons - a bastard sword and a repeating hand-crossbow. He is also skilled in Jewish mysticism and often summons mockeries of mythological beasts to back him up. Extremely radical in attitude, he hates all demons and all liberal people - including Gavron - and has a habit of jumping to illogical conclusions. Bad luck often haunts him, resulting in comical situations.)
Grand Inquisitor Sir Mathias Gottfried
(Gavron's direct superior officer and supervisor, this towering German knight of the Holy Roman Empire earned a fearful reputation in Europe. Gigantic in stature, strength and backed up with a cunning intellect and powerful sacred magics, he is rumored to be able to slay dragons and hellspawns all alone. He hates all demons, is extremely strict and devoted. Over 2 meters tall, extremely muscular, has black hair, and oddly enough, blonde eyebrows and a blonde little beard on his chin. He will be involved only in either truly colossal conflicts or adventures which take place in Inquisition-supervised cities.)
Huan Jing
(A Chinese "quarter-blooded" woman - 1/4 of her blood is demonic - who seems to have an unsettled score with Gavron. She apparently blames him for a past tragedy but can't bring herself to actually murder him, so instead she stalks him and constantly tries to foils his plans. Has red hair that reaches down to her hip, equally red eyes and a brown wolf tail. Cynical and sharp-tongued, and skilled in several martial arts.)
Captain Hong Wong
(Chinese mercenary and weapon specialist, enlisted to an Inquisitorial expedition; he sometimes accompanies Gavron on small-scale engagements, given his expertise with firearms. Has spiky black hair and is short-statured, with amber eyes. Daring and competitive, likes to joke and fool around, but has an explosive temper and dislikes non-Asians in general. He is also known to had an affair with Huan Jing in the past...)
Darkov
A demon from a different dimension accidently imprisoned in the body of a Russian Strelet officer, the malign entity known as Darkov holds control over shadows and is armed with a variety of dreadful magics which are strengthened even further by negative emotions in his vicinity. Fortunately the limitations of his mortal body keep him from achieving his full potential, else he would die from an energy outburst. Garbed in black clothing, a hooded cloak and a horrid skull mask concealing him, Darkov's outlook is known by few people. He hates Gavron and all who allies with him, always seeking a way to mess his plans up or at least piss him off.)
Appearance
Hair and beard: Gavron has somewhat bushy pitch-black hair reaching down to his shoulders. He washes it rarely so it's not pleasant to touch or to smell. He has a gotae (circle-shaped mustache around the mouth), the same color as his hair but he actually does look after his mustache's shape.
Eyes: dark brown
Build: height of 178 centimeters, good bone and muscle structure. Pretty muscular but not extraordinary.
Markings or tattoos: Gavron's body is wounded and scarred in many places, but most noteworthy of them is a cross-shaped injury just above his heart on his chest. He also has several smaller cuts on his cheecks, nose and chin.
Clothing: a brown-ish leather coat with a white t-shirt underneath and beige trousers with black leather belt and brown leather boots. He also wears a couple of leather gloves and a richly decorated segmented steel helmet with a red and a white feather poking out of its top (he can remove the feathers if he wants though). On occasions he wears a breastplate and strapped-on metallic arm-guards and leg-guard plates or steel greaves for extra protection.
Other: overall, Gavron is handsome (despite the cuts on his face), however due to his job he doesn't value his appearance too highly.
Below is a picture that might help in visualizing him (but it's not accurate in detail; ie. he would never wear that pimpin' hat):

And here's a picture of the helmet he usually (imagine feathers in the place of that thing on it)

Personality:
Good traits:
- Culturally Tolerant -
Having been raised in a mercenary group which had many nationalities, several halfbreed demons and followers of various religions among its ranks, Gavron is very acceptive and does not label anyone or anything "good" or "bad" based on racial, religious or cultural background. In addition his multicultural perspective helps him adapt to new situations rather quickly.
- Perceptive -
Over years of hard work Gavron learned to be a good observer. This attribute aids him in matters ranging from tracking and pathfinding to understanding body language and getting information from and about places, objects and persons.
- Comradeship -
While often perceived as an antisocial personality, Gavron does care deeply for his companions-at-arms and aims to keep casualties minimal, even if this means putting himself into additional risk. Gavron's trust can be difficult to earn, but the grim Inquisitor never lets a loyal friend down.
- Multi-linguistic -
Gavron appears to possess an outstanding skill in linguistics. He can apparently learn the basics of ANY language within a very short time. However, take note that if he doesn't continuously practice it (both speaking and writing) he will forget the given language just as fast.
Gavron's core languages (which he is fluent in and doesn't forget) are Latin and German. He also speaks French, Hungarian and several Slavic dialects to some degree. Any other languages beside these are "forgettable" to Gavron.
- Honesty -
Gavron likes to speak his thoughts out loudly and he rarely resorts to lying to others in conversations. This doesn't mean he can't keep a secret if asked, nor does it mean he can't be deceitful if some extreme necessity requires it, but in general you can almost always be sure that if he says something, he really means what he says.
Bad traits:
- The Devil Never Sleeps -
Due to the nature of his job, Gavron is extremely mistrustful towards everyone, especially those of demonic heritage. It is his nature and duty to suspect hidden conspiracies and treacheries at every turn. Even if he keeps silent about it, it is a rather difficult effort to fully earn his trust, even for those of otherwise good heart.
- Insensitive Bastard -
Having witnessed many foul deeds and events throughout his life, Gavron feels little remorse or regret for either his deeds or those of others. He doesn't openly show much sympathy towards those of ill fate and if he insults someone he otherwise likes, he has a very difficult time trying to say he's even remotely sorry.
- Cruelty is Justified -
As a military officer and Inquisitorial agent, Gavron demands utmost discipline and obedience from his subordinates and allies. If they fail to live up to his expectations or argue with him over "trivial" matters, Gavron won't hesitate to resort to displaying some sort of cruelty to keep the person in line. These can range from a too strong 'pat' on the back through head-whacking to 'missed' shots with one of his pistols. All for the sake of the mission.
Note that these acts of violence are NOT real attacks, they cause no damage at all, they are more like "warnings" and mood-setters.
- Impatient -
Gavron was trained to achieve good results in any required fields as quickly as possible and as such hates situations which force him to stay his hand or when bureaucrats and stupid idiots waste his precious time on worthless nonsense. In actual combat his impatience may cause him to act rashly (though not stupidly), something an experienced and patient opponent can use to his/her advantage.
- Disrespectful -
Even though he went though rigorous training, Gavron - perhaps due to his earlier life as a freelancer mercenary - bases his work ethic on guidelines and basic concepts of what's good and bad, and thus has a difficulty following strict rulesets and tends to disregard written laws and traditions which slow his work down. This leads him to clash with his superiors and potential allies from time to time, especially bureaucrats.
Likes:
- when things go as planned
- household animals (but that doesn't stop him from eating them )
- ridiculing people he doesn't like (the wider the public, the better)
- idyllic scenes
- seeing his work yielding good results
Dislikes:
- when things don't go as planned (which seems to happen to him all the time...)
- seeing good people suffering in vain
- insects (finds most of them disgusting)
- getting ridiculed or pushed around
Abilities
STRENGTHS:
- Mastermind -
Gavron is a trained investigator, interrogator and observer and is witty enough to quickly spot links and connections between things, a trait which often provides him sufficient time and opportunity to devise a counter-move, either as part of a great plan or simply foreseeing an attack/spell he witnessed before.
- An Ideal Soldier -
Trained for fighting since childhood, Gavron possesses the physical qualities and martial skills of an ideal frontline soldier with decades of fighting experience behind him. He is a good brawler, an expert fencer and skilled marksman with firearms. His skills may not be measured with those of specialized elite warriors such as sharpshooters or martial artists, but through a balanced combination of melee and ranged combat, adaptive thinking and good reflexes, he usually manages to come out on top even in difficult situations.
- Focused and Fearless -
Having been put through not only a demanding physical, but also a severe mental training which would had been enough to utterly crush those faint of heart, Gavron is very difficult to suprise, frighten or distract. No matter whether his foes are mere humans, or nightmarish fiends from the darkest corners of the Nine Hells, to him, it's all the same: obstacles.
- Weapon Expert -
Gavron was taught in the usage of numerous weapons and tools as a mercenary and during his years as an Inquisitor he even further perfected his skills. While he can't effectively wield weapon types he hasn't used since years, he is more than able to judge the quality and capabilities of weapons and counter them accordingly. Alternatively, one can always count on that Gavron is highly professional and resourceful in using whatever tools and weapons he brings along to a mission.
- Leader of Men -
From an early age Gavron was instructed in the ways of warfare not only as a soldier but as a strategist, trainer and inspiring leader. Both as a mercenary sergeant and an Inquisitorial officer, Gavron was/is often found leading a small detachment of soldiers on missions which require more muscle than diplomacy, and with a good reason: hard, fearless yet caring and cunning, Inquisitor-Captain Gavron is renowned to achieve outstanding successes with minimal casualties.
- His Reach is Far -
Gavron is not a lonely wolf in his quest to purge the world of evil. Either through abusing his connections within the Roman Inquisition, its allied factions or personal detective work, Gavron can acquire vital informations about seemingly anyone or anything, and if the situation demands it, request additional supplies and/or reinforcements. Such things, of course, take time and may not arrive when they would be most needed, but Gavron's foes must never underestimate the power behind the organization he serves.
WEAKNESSES:
- Merely a Mortal -
Although skilled, witty and strong he may be, Gavron is nevertheless still just a human, nothing more. Unless augmented by his tools, weapons and magics, he would be quick to fall before demons. Gavron is aware of his limitations and tries his best to make best use of his abilities to avoid ending up like ordinary people when facing the denizens of hell - horribly mutilated and dead - but if he was stripped of his equipment he would be just as fragile by the standards of demons as any other men (even though by human standards Gavron is rather durable).
- Limited Arsenal -
Like the majority of ordinary humans, Gavron is not too powerful on his own against demons - he needs proper equipment to deal with the vermin. However, Gavron on his own cannot carry too large amounts of ammunition, wards and bottles of holy water (it would just wear him down anyway), and accordingly he may run out of such expendable weaponry during adventures unless he gets his hands on new supplies.
- Old Wounds -
Throughout his life Gavron suffered many injuries, some of which would had been otherwise fatal for an average man. While he survives and fights on without considerable difficulties, some of his worse wounds didn't heal correctly and it causes him considerable agony if these painful spots get hurt again. Gavron tries to cover these spots with additional layers of armor whenever possible and seeks treatment to finally get rid of them, but it is likely that so long as he fights, there will be pain-spots dotting his body.
- Overuse -
Neither Gavron's nor his equipment's durability is limitless (save for his rapier). When calling upon the powers of Angels and Saints, Gavron puts quite some stress upon himself, and possibly on the weapons he wields as well. "Overusing" a weapon or armor may result in ruining, or some cases (firearms) even exploding that piece of equipment. In addition, Gavron generally gets headaches and notably weakens if he uses too much magic too quickly as both his mind and body get worn down by using up too much power.
- "God, what crime have I committed that you punish me like this ?!" -
The sentence above is a recurring phrase of Gavron, and with a good reason. Whenever Gavron does something notably sinister or at least severely antisocial, bad luck seems to follow in his wake. Such signs of bad karma can include (but are not limited at all) to: falling objects, pebbles which he trips over, bad weather, random lightning bolts from the sky (some of which DO hit him), long ago hidden and forgotten bear traps, and so on and so forth...
POWERS:
Mark of God
The cross-shaped wound on Gavron's chest is not merely an old scar: it is a reminder of his sacred duties, and more importantly, his last refuge in hand-to-hand combat against demonkin. When those of demonic heritage touch Gavron's body in any way, the Mark will attempt to "protect" its bearer. The more tainted and evil the fiend is, the more he/she will find touching the chosen champion of the Heavens painful and repulsive, as the Mark will severely irritate him/her. This feeling can be shrugged off with enough concentration (half-demons have an easier time attempting that), but it is likely that the "first contact" will be a nasty suprise.
Demons of truly good heart are not irritated by touching Gavron, however. Instead, if they try to hurt Gavron the Mark sends a subconscious message, a faint feeling that "killing this man would be wrong", but nothing else.
Note that this is NOT a real attack as it is passive and deals no damage. It is merely a last-second distraction, in a truly colossal battle it won't save Gavron's hide.
Funnily enough, Gavron himself is NOT aware of this ability ! If he would be, he wouldn't be wearing gloves all the time. ;D
...
Cleansing Fire
Ever since he entered the service of the Inquisition and learned the arcane secrets of the Warrior-Saints of old, Gavron displayed a noteworthy affinity with the element of fire. Throughout his training he learned to control it and bend it to cast absolution upon the enemies of God.
Gavron can put this ability to use by binding the essence of fire to the weaponry he carries. The effects can vary depending on the equipment he uses. Some examples below:
Bladed weapons - engulf the blade in magic flames which cannot be extinguished by water and cause most materials to burn or melt.
...
Firearms - enhance the bullet fired to violently explode upon impact (like a tiny fireball), produce a blinding flash, or ultimately, an unloaded gun can be used as a flamethrower, spitting flames at a few meters distance.
...
Holy Water - boil up the liquid; Gavron won't feel the heat, but once spilled the water will be scorching hot.
...
Holy Wards - enchant a ward to keep a person warm and/or provide minor resistance to fire and heat. Enchanting a ward takes some time as Gavron has to concentrate his magic. The Holy Ward is still usable even after the effect expires.
...
Armor - enchant a piece of armor to become fire resistant and/or cause a searing pain if it comes into contact with others. This won't set anything/anyone aflame, but can cause minor burn wounds and is, at least, very irritating for most people. Enchanting a piece of armor takes some time however as Gavron has to concentrate his magic.
As a bonus, Gavron can produce sparks of fire without using any tools, merely by snapping his fingers. BUT if there's nothing to sustain the fire (ie. a dry branch), it will be just a harmless spark, nothing else.
...
Armor of the Guardian Angel
By praying to certain Guardian Angels, Gavron can bestow a blessing of sacred protection upon an item or person for a limited duration of time. This protection is invisible to the human eye and lesser demons as well, but its effects speak well for themselves: a layer of unseen force, the protection spell covers the target like a force field and deflects or absorbs attacks of demonic energy. Not only that, but devilbreeds in the direct vicinity of the spell subject will feel themselves weakened and drained by this enchantment.
The stronger Gavron makes the spell, the shorter it lasts, and vice versa. In the most extreme cases:
- can last for a whole week, but only 1-2 minor spells can bring it down at once, OR
- withstands even mass destructive magics, but lasts only for half a minute or so.
Note that this spell does NOT mean invulnerability, "just" greatly increased resistance to demonic energies (mostly spells) and causes demons and half-demons to feel duller and weaker in its direct vicinity. Physical attacks bypass the protection spell without any difficulty. Also keep in mind it requires some time to be prepared, so unless it's cast before battle it won't be too efficient.
...
Phrases of Saints
Gavron knows several spells which can be invoked by using a Holy Ward and a specific phrase or prayer once uttered by the Warrior Saints of older times. The invocations have to be clearly spoken, but they don't have to be uttered. They can be whispered, but again, the whole phrase has to be spoken lest it won't function. Once a spell is cast, the Holy Ward used to channel it disappears and can't be used again. The invoked spells are generally short-lasting and are effective vs both demons and humans.
The Phrases of Saints (at least the ones used by Gavron) are:
"Archangel who struck down the Devil, grant me the strength to face this evil !"
Multiplies Gavron's physical strength; in this state he is a capable match for most lesser demons and half-demons in hand-to-hand combat but it lasts only for 8-10 minutes. There's also a chance he will damage his own equipment if he's careless (ie. accidently crushes his pistol with his grip)
"Divine thunder, I command thee: lash out upon all sinners !"
Enchant a ward with lighting; can be 'attached' to weapons or armors to add a bonus lightning-based effect, or thrown to lash out upon a foe with electric shock. If it is used as an 'attachment', the effect lasts for 3-6 minutes. If the ward is thrown at an enemy and hits, the electric shock lasts for roughly 5-9 seconds by standard, but that can be longer or shorter depending on the situation.
"Angels of dawn, let my vision pierce the clouds of deceit !"
Gavron's eyes start glowing with a faint white light for the next 4-12 minutes. In this state he can see decently even in nocturnal darkness (but his vision range in such a state will be rendered only to several meters) and illusionary images will seem transparent to him (this doesn't make the illusion image go away though, he'll just know it is not real, but he may still mistakenly react to it if he doesn't concentrate). The glowing eyes, may give his position away to opponents if he's not careful though. Illusions which affect a sense other than vision (ie. voices or touching) are not effected by this spell.
"I shall cast you back to the hell from whence you came !"
Provides a single-use powerful attack: Gavron's next attack, either with a weapon or bare hand/leg, will produce a mighty shockwave in its path. Opponents facing this force will feel as if they got assaulted by the might of a battering ram. This attack can literally blow away and hurl aside foes, but more often than not it is the impact of the landing that causes the most damage rather than the actual attack itself.
"I refuse to die here ! His will must be done !"
Gavron can nullify or at least significantly weaken an incoming magical attack by channeling magic into a Holy Ward. Normal physical attacks are not effected.
"May this weapon purge the world of evil entirely in His holy name !"
Using a Holy Ward, Gavron can enchant a weapon (or a weapon's ammunition in the case of ranged weapons) to strike with greater efficiency against demons. This spell grants similar properties to a weapon like those possessed by Gavron's sacred rapier. If used on an already sacred weapon (ie. Gabriel's Feather - see the weapons section), its demon-slaying powers are only even further increased. This boost lasts for 3-6 hours.
Note that once a weapon is sanctified with this spell, it becomes very difficult to be wielded by pure-blooded demons as it scorches their skin. Half-demons and humans don't experience any side effect.
Like Gabriel's Feather, weapons enchanted by this spell cause significantly less pain to good-aligned demonkin, though still more than a human would feel upon being wounded by that weapon.
"Great Lord of Heaven, let me become a pillar of light within this ocean of darkness !"
For the next 5-15 seconds, Gavron dons the visage of an angelic creature: he gains a halo, great white wings, and radiates an aura of righteousness. For those of good heart, this look is inspiring and encouraging, as if Gavron was indeed a beacon of hope, while enemies of God will look upon this visage with terror and dread, feeling their inevitable doom is drawing near.
Note that Gavron does not actually become an angel: this spell is an ILLUSION. A very powerful illusion, but still just an illusion, which restores the courage of allies and frightens enemies. Beside the cool look and the psychological effects it invokes, it does nothing.
On a sidenote, Gavron HATES resorting to this spell, especially in non-christian cultures because it generates (often) unwanted attention, and it makes him appear more than what he truly is (which is a "lie" according to his personal moral code, and he doesn't like to lie).
WEAPONS:
- Gabriel's Feather -
A rapier of mystical powers, rumored to have been forged using a quill from the wings of Archangel Gabriel. Gavron received this weapon from the Catholic Church upon attaining the rank of Inquisitor. While its origin may be debatable, its quality is not: virtually nigh indestructible, this lightweight two-edged sword can be used to cut and thrust through all but the most durable materials and can be wielded with fearsome accuracy and speed.
When fighting demons, the rapier shines with a faint light. Demonkin wounded by this weapon will feel the wound scorching with pain. In addition, injuries caused to demonkin by this rapier take notably longer to heal than ordinary wounds. Humans are not effected by this ability of the sword.
Good-aligned demons and/or halfbreeds feel significantly less pain upon being wounded by Gabriel's Feather, but still more than a human would feel upon being stabbed in the same manner.
Gabriel's Feather CANNOT be wielded by those of demonic blood; upon gripping it, the sword will start searing their body part off, literally, with an otherworldly fire so even fire-aligned demons cannot escape from this effect. If it's thrown away at once, it will merely cause a tiny burn wound, but if someone insist on wielding it, that demon/half-demon risks losing a hand or a whole arm. It is unknown if other human wielders would experience a similar effect, because Gavron doesn't let go of Gabriel's Feather easily.
- Pistols + cartridges -
Wheellock-type one-shot firearms, firing metallic cartridges. From a close distance these pistols are accurate and pack quite a punch, capable of penetrating even full plate armors or thick demonskin. On longer range however their accuracy and firepower drastically decreases. Relatively long reload time.
Gavron always takes at least 2, or sometimes 3 pistols with him. Since they are one-shot weapons and reloading can take a while, it's simpler just to bring along some extra pieces for combat a worry about reloading later.
At times Gavron dual-wields pistols, but that's quite rare. He prefers to go pistol-and-sword style.
Gavron's average spare ammunition amount is between 20-30.
- Holy Wards -
Just as Japanese monks utilize magically inscribed papers to combat demonkind, so does Gavron and other agents of the church utilize small crosses, medals and similar items against non-human adversaries. A ward can be used by holding it in the hand and reciting short prayers or phrases. Depending on the spoken phrase, they can have various effects to benefit Gavron's cause. Once a spell is cast with the help of a ward, the ward is consumed by the essence of the spell and can't be used anymore.
Gavron's usual spare Holy Ward amount is around 7-12.
- Holy Water -
Holy Water has more uses than average people realize. Beside a ritual use in monasteries, it is a potent weapon against demonkind and the living dead: any such creatures touched by Holy Water will suffer from it as if they came into contact with a powerful acid, as it tears off their skin and flesh. Wounds caused by Holy Water take longer to heal than ordinary wounds.
In addition, creatures animated by magic (ie. zombies, golems, bewildered vines, etc) are greatly weakened or downright destroyed and dissolved by Holy Water.
Alternatively, it can also be drank by humans to restore health and stamina to some degree. It won't produce miracles, but speeds up recovery from injuries.
Good-aligned demonkin are not scorched by Holy Water, but their skin is nevertheless highly irritated by its touch.
Gavron's usual spare bottled Holy Water amount is 2-4.
- Grenade -
Through Arabic and Chinese contacts, Gavron sometimes acquires primitive hand-grenades: small, ball-shaped metallic containers with a fuse. Once the fuse is lighted with fire, it has to be thrown; once the fuse burns down, the grenade explodes. There are three types of grenades:
Explosive - filled with gunpowder; causes a moderate explosion in an area, damaging everything and everyone caught in the area of effect. Gavron marks this type of grenade with orange paint.
...
Incinerating - filled with greek fire; upon impact, the liquid spills and covers everything it touches in flames. Good to set stuff aflame. Can be extinguished with proper effort though. Gavron marks this type of grenade with red paint.
...
Splinter - filled with little gunpowder but many tiny metallic and wooden shrapnels, it causes only little explosion but casts burning shrapnels in all directions. Doesn't cause much actual damage, but can set the environment aflame and provides distraction. Gavron marks this type of grenade with yellow paint.
Note that Gavron does NOT always carry these things around, as they are very hard to acquire.
If (IF !) he does bring some along, he takes no more than 1-4.
History and writing
HISTORY:
Gavron Alexander was born in the Kingdom of Hungary to a company of mercenaries which participated in battles against the invading Turks in the southern borders of the country. Both his parents were professional soldiers, but died due to a plague not long after Gavron's birth. Gavron was brougth up by the company's captain who intended to raise him into a perfect soldier. He succeeded: Gavron indeed became a great fighter, but also an insensitive, violent bastard.
His life came to a turning point however, when his company faced a Turkish force led by a mighty demon. While the demon was brought down, Gavron suffered a fatal injury just above his heart. He fell unconscious, lingering between life and death, until he beheld an otherworldly vision in his sleep, then awakened, mostly forgetting what he saw. On the other hand, he realized his wound healed perfectly: all that remained of it was a cross-shaped scar. Believing it a divine miracle, he felt compelled to start a new life. He was promoted to the rank of captain before he bid farewell to his mentor and comrades.
Soon afterwards he came across a group of knights who were hunting down dragons and demons. He was allowed to join the group for a brief time. Seeing his determination and experience in combat, the knights suggested he should join the Roman Inquisition - and so he did. He spent the next years studying the power of Saints and learning ways to combat both mortal and immortal enemies of God.
Now, full of experience and armed to the teeth, Inquisitor-Captain Gavron Alexander wanders the world and does what the Inquisition requires of him: spread the word of God, and eradicate the Lord's enemies by any means he sees necessary. And try to stay alive and sane in the process, both of which can be quite demanding...

(since you made it optional, I'd rather not bother with it for now if that's no problem )
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Before anyone would think I'm crazy for bringing an Inquisitor with guns into the world of Inuyasha, let me put a couple of notes here for you:
- Inuyasha takes place in the Sengoku Period, and one (or more) episode(s) suggests that Oda Nobunaga is already living but probably as a young man so he hasn't started the war for unification yet. This means the events in the Anime/Manga take place roughly between 1545-1560 AD.
- Europeans and Chinese people used firearms since the 14th century. Firearms (at least muskets) were introduced to Japan around 1543 by European merchants.
- Christian missionaries also came to Japan, and eventually Oda Nobunaga even allowed them to open churches (to limit the influence of Buddhist monk orders). The Inquisition already existed by this time (and continued to exist for another couple of centuries).
- the 16th century was the golden age of the Inquisition. The Roman, Spanish and Portuguese inquisitions all prospered at that era and their influence reached as far as North/South America, some African countries and some Asian ones as well.
I do admit however that I did make a few cheats. First (and biggest) is that pistols weren't invented 'till the 17th century. The second is that christianity began spreading in large only after Nobunaga finished his unification war. The third is simple: the roman inquisition didn't care much about churches in Asia (although it was not impossible to send an inquisitor abroad if needed). But hey, in a world full of demons, magic and other strange stuff I think these are forgivable mistakes...
